Dr. Takayuki Ito

Executive Research Engineer, NHK Science and Technology Research Laboratories

Takayuki Ito received Bachelor, Master, and Doctor Degrees of Engineering in electrical engineering from Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan, in 1977, 1979, and 1992 respectively. He has been working for NHK since 1979 and for NHK STRL since 1981. Since then he has researched on visual and auditory science, cognitive science, image recognition, 3DTV, and media accessibility. He conducted research and management as Director of Human Scinece Research Division and Human and Information Research Division from 2003 to 2008, and as Deputy Director-General of NHK STRL from 2008 to 2010. Currently he presides over research activities on human science and media accessibility in the laboratories as Executive Research Engineer. He is a fellow of ITE and a member of IEICE, IEEE, JNNS, Human Interface Society, and Japanese Cognitive Science Society.

Dr. Hiroshi Ando

Director, Multisensory Cognition and Computation Laboratory, Universal Communication Research Institute, National Institute of Information and Communications Technology

Hiroshi Ando received his B.S. in Physics in 1983, his M.S. in Experimental Psychology in 1987 from Kyoto University, Kyoto, Japan, and his Ph.D. Computational Neuroscience from Department of Brain and Cognitive Sciences, MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology), USA in 1993. He then joined ATR (Advanced Telecommunications Research Institute International), Kyoto, Japan, where he became Head of Department of Perceptual and Cognitive Dynamics. In 2006, he joined NICT (National Institute of Information and Communications Technology) and became Group Leader of Multimodal Communication Group. He now is Director of the Multisensory Cognition and Computation Laboratory of NICT. He is also guest professor at Graduate School of Frontier Biosciences, Osaka University in Japan. His primary research interests include cognitive brain science, computational neuroscience and multisensory human interfaces.
