We will invite Professor Gerry Derksen to DCEXPO as a representative of SIGGRAPH this year. In this session, he will give a talk titled "Virtual Voices: Capturing Conversations for Visualization." Then, we will hold a panel discussion on "Visualization, the Key to the Future" with panelists including Gerry and Japan's experts.

  • Gerry Derksen
    Professor of University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana
    Professor Gerry Derksen is originally from Canada where he went to the University of Manitoba’s architecture school and later graduate school at the University of Alberta. Under Jorge Frascara he studied visual communication design, which integrates user centred design philosophy with traditional marketing communication strategies. The subject of his masters thesis, “Jury perceptions of animation”, studied re-enactments of a crime scene to determine the prejudicial impact on a jury. Much of Prof. Derksen’s published research includes interactive media for the web and stand-alone applications. After graduate school Prof. Derksen spent the next 16 years in the department of Visual Communication Design at Winthrop University. While there, he founded the Bachelor of Science degree in Interactive Media part of the interdisciplinary Digital Information Design program. Currently, he is working as a Research Professor on topics of data narratives, combined real and virtual experiences and areas of service design at the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana.

    Born in 1980. He got a master's degree from Graduate School of Media and Governance of Keio University. His major is sociology (information technology and society, and media studies).
    His main work includes "Ecosystem of Architecture" (Chikuma bunko)

  • Kensuke Ichihara
    Senior Executive Director of Digital Content Association of Japan (DCAJ)
    Completing a master's course in electrical and electronic engineering at Tokyo Institute of Technology, entered MITI (currently METI) in 1986. After serving at METI, the Japan Defense Agency, Cabinet Office, etc., appointed Director-General for Economy, Trade and Industry Department of Okinawa General Bureau of Cabinet Office in 2007. From 2009, served as Director-General for Industry and Technology Department and Manufacturing and Environment Industry Department of Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO). Appointed a professorship at Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2012 and appointed to the current position in June, 2014. Specializes in industrial policy, theory of innovation and organizational management.
