Technical details

From announcements at airports, transport facilities, and shopping centers, to guides at tourist spots, shows and parades at theme parks, and emergency announcements, our cities are full of sound-based information. However, this information is incomprehensible to people who do not understand Japanese, and difficult to convey to the hearing impaired and elderly people whose hearing is failing. “Omotenashi Guide” is intended to “design sound to provide universal understanding,” using digital signage and users’ smartphones to deliver information to users in language they can understand without an Internet connection.

 Exhibition content

Have you ever had difficulties understanding Japanese announcements or narration?
"I don't understand Japanese!""It’s too difficult to hear!"

If this happens to you, just open the "Omotenashi Guide" application and it will convert announcements into written format in your own language. In this exhibition, you can experience this technology yourself - and it doesn’t require an Internet connection!
