Kinect sensor is sold in the end of 2010 as a Xbox 360 device. Kinect, which enables consumers to control games “without controller” is a sensor of human body. With some special cameras Kinect can sense joints of human body with Z-axis and can estimate posture of the human by machine learning. This Kinect sensor is not expensive and can be leveraged in many research areas.
In June 2011, Microsoft Research releases Kinect for Windows SDK Beta and it makes Kinect used in PC application development. From then on academic researchers and developers are trying to use Kinect sensor for their software with Kinect for Windows SDK Beta.
In this session, the summary of Kinect application development with Kinect for Windows SDK Beta is shown. In addition, the future of the Kinect application is discussed.
